About Nomex®

Here's some important information for you to know about Nomex®:

  • Nomex® is a trademark of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company for their aramid fiber.  Nomex® IIIA is a blend of 93% Nomex®, 5% Kevlar®, and 2% static dissipative fiber.  Nomex® is inherenty flame resistant, and the fire resistant properties are for the life of the garment
  • Applications for Nomex®IIIA garments include the petrochemical, oil and gas industries.  They are also appropriate for electrical utilities, auto racing, military and fire fighting.

What Nomex®IIIA should NOT be used for:

  • Don't use around molten white metals such as aluminum, magnesium, or zinc, as these substances will adhere to the fabric
  • Do not use in welding operations
  • These garments do NOT provide personal chemical protection.  Where chemical exposure is a hazard, appropriate barrier garments should be worn
  • While a static dissipative fiber is present, these garments should NOT be used in critical static control situations.  They should NOT be donned or removed in an area where static would pose a hazard

Care of Nomex® IIIA Garments

Nomex® IIIAgarments are generally unaffected by commonly used laundry chemicals and bleaches.  Slight strength loss results from exposure to strong acids or chlorine bleach.  Because of the excellent durability of the fabric, the greatest threat to the usable life of Nomex® IIIA garments is due to color loss.  To minimize fading it is recommended that they be laundered at 140 degrees F, using nonionic surfactants.
